We are proud to announce the succesful conclusion of the First International Scholarly and Practical Conference “Competition Policy: Contemporary Trends and Challenges”, held in Tbilisi, Georgia on November 17-18, 2017. The event was co-organized by IOS Partners, Competition Agency of Georgia, Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, and the Competition Institute of Georgia.
About 200 representatives from over 20 countries participated in the conference, including local and international organizations, competition authorities, members of the Georgian government and parliament, the Supreme Court, academia, and non-governmental organizations.
Mr. Nodar Khaduri, Chairman of the Georgian Competition Authority, opened the conference with a welcoming speech, followed by remarks from the Ministers of Economy and Education of Georgia, the Chairperson of the Supreme Court of Georgia, and representative of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. The ensuing discussions proved very constructive, as Memoranda of Understanding were signed between the Competition Agency of Georgia and the competition authorities of Belarus, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Czech Republic, Romania and Moldova to promote further cooperation between the countries.
Throughout the conference, Mr. Khaduri provided tours around the library, museum, and pantheon at the Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University for the guests. One of the most praised events of the conference was a seminar led by William E. Kovacic, Professor at the George Washington University Law School and the former Chair of the Federal Trade Commission of the United States.
