Tunisia’s fishing ports play a critical role in supporting coastal livelihoods, food supply, and national economic activity. As pressures on the sector increase, strengthening how these ports are planned, managed, and monitored has become essential for long-term sustainability.

Following a nationwide assessment of the fisheries sector, IOS Partners completed a detailed review of fleet capacity, employment conditions, regulatory frameworks, and the operational realities across key ports. With this foundation in place, the project is now in its next phase. The focus is on improving infrastructure planning, enhancing financial and operational performance, and reinforcing social and environmental standards that can support sustainable and inclusive sector growth.

Working closely with national institutions, port authorities, fishermen, and local communities, the initiative aims to create stronger alignment between governance systems and the needs of the people they serve. Through technical workshops, structured consultations, and continuous data collection and analysis, the project is helping lay the groundwork for a more transparent, resilient, and competitive maritime economy.

IOS Partners remains committed to supporting Tunisia as it modernizes its port management practices and strengthens the long-term sustainability of its fisheries sector. The collective effort taking shape across institutions and communities reflects a shared commitment to building a stronger blue economy for the future.
