Walking through the markets and offices of Conakry, it became clear: e-commerce isn’t a concept on a page. It’s people, platforms, and potential waiting to be unlocked.
Following the project launch and initial consultations, the team is currently in Phase 2 of the assignment to develop Guinea’s E-Commerce Policy, Strategy, and Action Plan, implemented with the support of the World Bank and in close collaboration with the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications, and Digital Economy and the Ministry of Commerce.
This phase focuses on grounding the future policy in reality. Through a field mission in Conakry, the team engaged with a wide range of stakeholders across government and civil society, including e-commerce associations and consumer groups, to assess the current e-commerce landscape and understand how digital trade operates in practice.
These exchanges are a critical step in the process. By identifying opportunities, constraints, and challenges, and by listening closely to the experiences of those working within the ecosystem, the insights gathered during Phase 2 will directly inform the next stages of the project. The strong engagement from stakeholders highlighted the importance of designing a framework that is practical, implementable, and aligned with Guinea’s context.
